An HMI prototype for a tool to detect and resolve Call Sign similarities

In a further project for the European Organisation for the Safety of Air Navigation (EUROCONTROL), I contributed to the design of a future tool to assist Air Traffic stakeholders to detect phonetically similar call signs (aircraft flight identifiers) and other abbreviations. These so-called "Call Sign similarities" can lead to potentially hazardous situations and accidents. EUROCONTROL is foreseeing the tool to be used by all air traffic stakeholders in the EUROCONTROL area of operations. Through field studies at two Aircraft Operators, I collected user requirements in preparation of several iterations of the tool's human-machine interface (HMI).

Producing an interactive prototype, I led a user workshop to directly elicit feedback and further requirements for the web-based Call Sign Similarity Tool (CSST) that will be made available via EUROCONTROL's Network Operations Portal (NOP).
